Reduce Internal Dryness & Vata Dosha

The three primary doshas are Vata or wind, Pitta or fire, and Kapha or water. We are born with all three doshas but they come together differently in each one of us. Every person has one primary form of dosha - Prakriti, that makes up his or her constitution.

Today we will be discussing Internal Dryness and Vata Dosha. When in balance Vata type skin is slightly cool, dry, and has fine pores. When out of balance, the skin type is prone to excess dryness, fine lines, premature aging and wrinkles, and other digestive issues. Vata dryness occurs due to aggravation of Vata the blood circulation is affected, leading to drying up of arteries, capillaries, and nerves. To heal internally add food taste according to Vata dosha is Sour, Salty, and Sweet. To heal externally try to put mustard oil in your outlets.

Here are some tips for Vata skin type-

  • Avoid raw and cold foods
  • Eat warm, unctuous, well-spiced food prepared in healthy oils such as ghee.
  • Herbs like turmeric, cumin, nutmeg are excellent for pacifying Vata.
  • Drink warm water first thing in the morning to promote peristaltic action in the large intestine.
  • Stay warm
  • A healthy routine is key for keeping Vata in balance
  • Create a yoga practice that emphasis grounding.
  • Always bring a sweater and avoid cold environments.
  • Perform Abhyanga (self-massage) daily to keep the skin tissue supple and moisturized.

When we feel Dryness on the external body, it means we have dryness internally as well. Internal Dryness can cause water retention, reduce blood flow, and constipation. To minimize your dryness and Vata dosha, use Almond, Sesame, and Mustard oil.

Put 2 drops of oil in each nostril, ear canal, and on your feet. You can also put it in your navel and rectum area.
